How does polishing work?
We start with coarse diamonds to flatten the slab and work through finer and finer grits. Along the way we apply a densifier that hardens the surface. The final passes bring up the shine, anywhere from soft satin to high gloss. A guard sealer at the end helps resist stains.
Where is polished concrete a good fit?
- Shops, warehouses, and retail spaces with heavy foot or cart traffic.
- Modern homes and converted garages going for an industrial look.
- Floors where you never want to recoat or worry about peeling.
Polishing needs a slab in decent shape. Stains, patches, and old saw cuts still show, and some people like that. For full color control or a showpiece finish, a poured metallic coating may suit you better.
Polish the slab or coat it?
Polished concrete lasts a long time with little upkeep, but it does not hide flaws and it is not fully stain-proof. Coatings hide more and stand up to chemicals better. For working spaces that see spills, we often steer people toward a coated work floor instead.
Polished concrete FAQs
Is it slippery?
Dry polished concrete has decent grip. Like most smooth floors, it gets slick when wet.
How do I take care of it?
Dust mop it and clean with a neutral cleaner. An occasional burnish keeps the shine up.
